Uncle J's Dirty Apron BBQ ("we," "our," or "the company") uses artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in limited, defined ways to improve the experience of our customers and candidates. This policy explains where AI is used, how it works, what data it processes, and what it cannot do.

We are committed to using AI responsibly, transparently, and in a manner that respects your privacy and dignity. No AI system we operate makes final decisions about you without human review.

2. How We Use AI

2a. Hiring Screening Chatbot

Candidates who apply for open positions on our careers page may interact with an AI-powered screening assistant ("Pitmaster AI"). This tool conducts an initial conversational screening covering availability, experience, and fit for the role.

• The AI does not make hiring decisions. It produces a summary and a preliminary fit assessment that a human hiring manager reviews before any action is taken.
• Screening transcripts and summaries are logged internally and shared only with authorized Uncle J's Dirty Apron BBQ personnel involved in the hiring process.
• AI-response detection: To promote fairness to all candidates, the screening system uses automated signals — including a language classifier and behavioral analysis — to flag responses that may have been generated by an AI tool (such as ChatGPT) rather than written by the candidate personally. This is intended to ensure we are evaluating the genuine experience and communication style of each applicant. Flagged submissions are reviewed by a human before any conclusion is drawn.
• Candidates are not required to disclose whether they used AI assistance, but we may weigh flagged sessions differently in our evaluation.
• Resume files uploaded during the process are stored securely and deleted upon request.

2b. Website Monitoring

We use Sentry to monitor our website for errors, crashes, and performance issues. Sentry may automatically capture anonymized technical data — such as browser type, operating system, page URL, and error stack traces — when something goes wrong on the site. This data is used solely to diagnose and resolve technical problems and is not linked to your personal identity.

2c. Internal Tools

We may use AI-assisted tools internally for tasks such as drafting marketing copy, social media posts, or analyzing aggregate (non-personal) business data. These uses do not directly affect customers and do not involve personal data beyond what employees voluntarily enter.

3. What AI Cannot Do on Our Platform

• AI cannot accept, modify, or cancel your orders.
• AI cannot access your payment information, Clerk account credentials, or full personal profile.
• AI cannot make final hiring, termination, or disciplinary decisions.
• AI cannot contact you via phone, SMS, or email on behalf of Uncle J's without a human reviewing the content first.

4. Data and Privacy

Any personal information processed by AI systems on our platform is subject to our Privacy Policy. We do not sell your data to AI training services. Data processed by third-party AI providers is governed by their respective data processing agreements.

5. Human Oversight

Every consequential AI output — hiring assessments and flagged candidate sessions — is reviewed by a qualified team member before action is taken. We do not rely solely on automated systems for decisions that affect individuals.

6. Accuracy and Limitations

AI systems can make mistakes. Please confirm time-sensitive information with our staff directly. If you encounter an AI interaction that seems wrong or inappropriate, please contact us so we can investigate.

7. Your Rights

• You may request that your hiring application data (including any AI-generated screening summary) be deleted by contacting us at the address below.
• You may request a human review of any AI-assisted hiring assessment.

8. Updates to This Policy

We may update this policy as our use of AI evolves. Material changes will be noted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Continued use of our services after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
